Topics include window assessment, sash removal and reinstallation, glazing, basic wood repairs, weatherproofing considerations, energy efficiency and traditional finishing techniques using linseed oil paint. Participants will leave with a practical understanding of how historic windows were constructed, how they perform, and how thoughtful repair can extend their service life for generations to come. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

A discussion and demonstration led by Michiel Brouns

In addition, Michiel Brouns will lead a session on the identification and conservation of
historic window glass. Participants will learn to distinguish between different types of
historic glazing, understand their manufacturing processes, and recognize the visual
characteristics that help establish the age and evolution of a building. This session will
provide valuable insight into why historic glass should be preserved whenever possible
and how it contributes to the character, authenticity, and historical record of traditional
buildings.
